Sup’Biotech Innovation Projects (SBIP) :

A full-scale innovation program

The SBIP program offers future biotechnology experts at Sup’Biotech a full-scale authentic experience in piloting innovative projects. These team projects involve a primary phase of scientific and technological innovations and then a second phase of research and development of the proof of concept.
The SBIP program helps students develop an entrepreneurial mindset that is compatible with the professional expectations of the biotechnology world.

The SBIP philosophy “an idea, a concept, a project”

This program teaches Sup’Biotech students to respond to current, unresolved or future needs, through the development of projects. It covers aspects of innovative project development and implementation in the fields of technology, science, marketing, intellectual property and product development while also teaching students how to work as part of a team. The SBIP program responds to potential industrial (partnership) expectations, to promote the career success of Sup’Biotech’s graduates, and to help students in the entrepreneurial track learn how to launch businesses.

For students in their second through fifth years, the program is based on inductive teaching methods that cover all stages of innovative project development, from the idea to its implementation and application. These ground-breaking projects aim to respond to current, unresolved or future needs in the biotechnology field.

Each project team includes a diverse group of students from the various majors offered at Sup’Biotech : health, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, agrifood and the environment.

Based project development needs, the teams may consider partnerships with academic or institutional entities or key businesses, to establish the industrial credibility of the project and to obtain potential financial support.

The Entrepreneurship Track

A program to promote biotechnology entrepreneurship

This track is for students who would like to launch a business or a technology transfer as part of their professional network in the biotechnology sector. The Entrepreneurship Track connects its students with a network of professionals whose objective is to promote a dynamic biotechnology sector in France. It allows future entrepreneurs to acquire the tools, both theoretical and practical (financial plan, patent, industrial property, articles of incorporation, the biotech participatory environment, business plan) to launch their project and help it grow.

The Entrepreneurship Track is sponsored by Mr. Christian Policard et Mr. Jacques Lewiner. It is supported by Tech2Market, Villejuif Bio-Park, Cancer Campus, Sogedev, Scientipole, BPI France, Creative Valley, Réseau entreprendre 94, the Development Agency of Val de Marne, the AFFSI, the Medicen Region Competitive Cluster, the HBC, the BFPI, and the INPI.

The Biotech Workshop

This workshop is open to Sup’Biotech students; here they can work on the proof of concept for their innovative projects.

This workshop is a technical workspace where students have access to an array of professional tools to advance their projects from the technological point of view: lab benches, centrifuge, incubator, sterilizer and many pieces of small equipment. Students may work in the Biotech Workshop on their assigned days, or during immersion weeks, or as their schedules allow. Although the Biotech Workshop is highly regulated for safety reasons, it is also a free space for research, development, innovation and the creation for student projects.

Photodialysis Project (environment)

Ecological and sustainable desalination for our planet’s survival

Our planet’s fresh water, essential to life, is becoming scarcer. According to the United Nations, 2.7 billion people will face water scarcities in 2015. Water supplies are a global economic issue. The desalination of ocean water (reverse osmosis or electrodialysis technologies) is highly polluting and energy-intensive: energy accounts for nearly half of the cost of desalination.

The Photodialysis project is based on the creation of a synthetic and non-reliant membrane comprised of active proteins. The process aims to adapt existing processes that transfer salt from one area to another, by simply exposing sea water to the sun (a source of clean, renewable energy).

The concept of photodialysis offers an innovative, ecological and sustainable industrial alternative to existing methods. Its market positioning focuses on governments’ expected response to their need to participate in shared management of fresh water consumption, an issue that is crucial to the survival of our planet.
