International Exchange Program at SupBiotech Paris
SupBiotech invites international students to participate in its exchange program, which combines biotechnology education with hands-on, industry-oriented learning. The program allows students to specialize in essential areas of biotechnology through focused tracks and core courses.
By studying in Paris, students gain a multidisciplinary understanding of biotechnology, science, and management.
Specialized Tracks and Core Courses
SupBiotech’s program offers students the chance to specialize in key sectors of biotechnology through targeted tracks and core courses.
Genetic & Cellular Engineering (4 ECTS)
This course offers a comprehensive introduction to the rapidly evolving fields of genetic and cellular engineering, which are increasingly significant in addressing current societal and environmental challenges. Students will explore a variety of genome manipulation techniques used in modern research nowadays, including cloning, sequencing and genome editing. In addition, the course will also delve into cell biology topics such as the maintenance of stem cell properties, differentiation and cellular reprogramming. Students will be expected to catch up (if needed) and reinforce their understanding of the various topics of research on their own, through reading literature or materials provided prior to any session. The course is designed to provide both theoretical knowledge and practical experience.
Throughout the semester, students will engage with key concepts of genetic engineering, with a focus on the analysis of scientific papers. This will allow them to deepen their understanding of methods such as CRISPR-Cas9 technology, the use of GMOs in agriculture, and the applications of such technologies in fields ranging from medical sciences to agrifood businesses. Students will further develop their experimental skills during practical sessions on stem cell biology with the help of the CellTechs team from SupBiotech/CEA laboratories, where they will apply their theoretical knowledge to real-world biotech applications.
The course also emphasizes the importance of ethical considerations in the field of genetic and cellular engineering. Students will participate in debates on various contemporary topics to foster critical thinking and to understand the societal impacts of biotechnological advancements. They will also be encouraged to develop their English communication skills (both oral and written) through several presentations.
Pharmacology (2 ECTS)
This course offers students a foundational understanding of how drugs interact with the human body. The course covers key principles of drug administration, including sources of drugs, as well as the essential concepts of pharmacokinetics (how the body affects a drug) and pharmacodynamics (how the drug affects the body).
Students will learn how drugs are absorbed, distributed, metabolized, and excreted, and how these processes influence the effectiveness and safety of therapeutic agents. The course is designed to provide a broad overview without focusing on specific medications or biological systems, making it ideal for students who seek to understand the aspects of pharmacological applications.
Practical sessions complement the theoretical lectures, allowing students to apply their knowledge. This course equips students with the necessary tools to integrate pharmacological principles into the development of innovative engineering solutions in fields like biomedical engineering, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical sciences.
SBIP: SupBiotech Innovation Project (6 ECTS)
Work collaboratively on entrepreneurial biotech projects. Develop critical project management skills through phases such as market research, product conception, and pitching.
Minor Specializations (6 ECTS)
- Agri-Food: Delve into topics like food preservation, traceability, and quality control.
- Cosmetics: Focus on reconstituted skin, product quality control, and sensory analysis.
Core Bioinformatics and Industrial Engineering Courses
The program includes core courses designed to give students strong foundational knowledge in key biotech areas.
Bioinformatics Tools A (4 ECTS)
As an introduction, this course aims at giving students general notions of bioinformatics and the different fields in which we can apply it. Key features of the main “Omics” sciences will be presented, such as genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics and metagenomics. They will understand the past and the state-of-the art of a wide range of techniques in the field. As general objectives, students will learn about the theory behind and how to exploit online resources (both databases and tools to work easily and get complete outputs). A brief supervised introduction to R, a programming language widely used in this type of bioinformatics analysis, will also be given. As cross-cutting competences, the aim is to develop students’ ability to generate and present scientific results through oral presentations throughout the course.
Industrial Engineering A (6 ECTS)
The objective of this course is to give students a global vision of the equipment’s used in Bio-Process industries, and provides students with an introduction to principal concepts and methods of fluid mechanics and heat exchanges.
Students will also have the opportunity to demonstrate a familiarity and ability to work on fluid mechanics, heat exchangers and filtration during practical sessions. Four practical works have been designed to allow students to apply the courses (fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, heat exchanges). Practicals in small groups (18 students maximum) are carried out on pilot-scale installations, in the presence of two teachers to allow effective supervision in complete safety.

French as a Foreign Language (2 ECTS)
Beginner and advanced courses are available to help students develop their French language skills and deepen their understanding of French culture.
Business Game – RUSH (2 ECTS)
Immersing students in an intensive and intense serious game activity. Encouraging teamwork and developing problem solving skills. The activity is run on a large scale with students from different years and sometimes in collaboration with other schools. The specific topic and content are not revealed in advance as the objective for students is to manage to perform in a context for which they are unprepared.
Sustainable Development & Society (2 ECTS)
The course is a general introduction to the concepts and issues of Sustainable Development (SD) in an interdisciplinary and systems-oriented context. The relationship between how the economy functions and the environment functions will be investigated. The role of governments, society and businesses (Environmental Value Systems and Environmental Justice) in the effective formation and efficient implementation of policies involving SD will be examined.
A field trip will be organized after the first five sessions. On completion of the course, the student should be able to: critically understand the concepts and history of SD, analyse and complex interdisciplinary issues from the different stakeholder points of view (political, social, economic and ethical), propose substantive advice and solutions to the different problems sustainable development engages through a critical analysis of different actors’ norms and perspectives.

Each international exchange semester offers a custom 30 ECTS program designed to meet global industry demands. The courses balance theoretical understanding with practical skills in biotech and related fields.

As a member of the European Erasmus+ Program, SupBiotech offers international students the opportunity to enhance employability through skills development and language improvement. Students undergo a selective process based on academic performance and English proficiency.
